Wanted - the movie review

September 27th 2008 12:49
WARNING!! MOVIE SPOILER REVIEW!!

Who (and I mean what guy) was not waiting to see this movie with Angelina Jolie playing the role of a hitman? Or hitwoman, is that a word? Well, I was and when I went to the theaters to see it, I was half impressed half disappointed. I personally thought there could have been more action, more shooting and some more story to the twist of the plot. There was a decent twist to the movie, but there wasn't enough build up to make it climatic. The kid was just too easily turned into a badass assassin if you ask me.

The cool parts of the movie:
This kid who seems to be completely overcome with anxiety attacks (the main character) turns out to have this special ability to control adrenaline rushes that causes his heart to beat about 400 beats a minute. This gives him the ability to make decisions and see things faster than normal people. Angeline Jolie and Morgan Freeman help him to find this ability, but not after giving him some off the wall therapy.
The kid learns not to take crap from anyone anymore, dumps his cheating girl friend, knocks out his best friend (who is banging his girlfriend), tells his boss to kiss his ass and finds millions of dollars in his bank account.
He learns to shoot around corners, curving the line a bullet travels.

The not so cool parts of the movie:
The main twist of the movie, the kid turned badass assassin is sent to kill the best assassin in the business because he killed his father. Well, the kid kills the best assassin only to find out that the man he just killed was his father. WHAT? Yeah, turns out the man that was said to be his father wasn't, and the whole story was made up by the ones who trained him to be an assassin so that he would kill his own father. Yeah, kinda corny.
After the kid learns this, he seeks revenge and goes to kill all those that trained him. When he is surrounded with no escape Angelina Jolie makes one shot that kills everyone including herself and the kid is left to kill Morgan Freeman. That's the end of the movie.

Not enough shoot-em up action for a big anticipated action movie about hitmen! I found half the movie to be interesting and the other half leaving me unsatisfied and wanting a better ending.

My rating, 3 stars.

I have to admit that I don't really dig Angelina Jolie, so this movie didn't appeal to me much. I'd be interested in reading the graphic novel, though...
